The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest technical professional association, connecting more than 360,000 members in approximately 150 countries. Founded in 1884 by electrical engineering innovators who understood the value of shared information, the IEEE vision is to advance global prosperity by fostering technological innovation, enabling members' careers, and promoting community worldwide. Members of the IEEE automatically become members of their local IEEE Section. As of January 2004, there are 304 local Sections and 1,384 technical Chapters spread through ten regions of the world.

IEEE Power Electronics/Industrial Electronics/Industry Applications Joint Chapter (Malaysia Section) is one of the IEEE Malaysia technical chapters. This is a joint chapter formed from three rapid growing IEEE societies, i.e. Power Electronics (PEL), Industry Applications (IA) and Industrial Electronics (IE). Before the formation of this joint chapter in 2004, most of the members were placed under Power & Energy (PE) Chapter. This joint chapter accepts members who are registered in one/more out of the three societies. The number of members for the joint chapters has been increasing to about eighty seven (87) by the end of the year 2008 from approximately twenty six (26) in the 2006.The current Chair is Mustafar Kamal Hamzah, from Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia.
